Part 2 – SUSTAINABLE BEAUTY — IMPACT OF THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY ON THE ENVIRONMENT.
Good News:
According to the Brazilian Association of the Personal Hygiene, Perfumery, and Cosmetics Industry (ABIHPEC), in the last 5 years, the beauty market in Brazil has grown by 560% compared to previous periods. This growth makes Brazil the fourth largest beauty and personal care market in the world, behind only the United States, China, and Japan.
Worrisome News:
The production of cosmetics uses more than 10 thousand chemical and petrochemical substances, called POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants), which do not easily decompose, take many years, and can accumulate in the human body.
Due to the increased demand for beauty products, the industry begins to produce more and consequently the negative impact on the environment becomes greater.
Actions that can change the scenario:
—> Use of sustainable and organic inputs in its manufacturing.
—> Opt for recyclable and biodegradable packaging.
—> Invest in research and development of products with lower environmental impact, such as alternatives to animal testing and formulas more friendly to the environment.
—> Promote the conscious use of products and encourage consumers to reuse, recycle, and properly dispose of products.
—> Implement more efficient logistics policies to reduce the carbon footprint of distribution.
—> Adopt programs to encourage sustainable practices throughout the beauty industry's production chain.
As consumers become more conscious, making responsible choices and supporting brands that prioritize sustainability, it is expected that the beauty industry will adopt sustainable measures to minimize its negative impact on the environment.
